About the treatment

Understanding Microneedling

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is an advanced collagen-induction treatment that uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-channels within the skin. This natural healing response supports the production of fresh collagen and elastin, helping to improve overall skin quality, texture and resilience over time.

How Does It Work?

As the skin repairs itself, new collagen supports smoother texture, improved firmness and a healthier-looking complexion. Microneedling may help reduce the appearance of acne scarring, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture and fine lines while encouraging gradual, natural-looking improvements.

Personalised and considered

Suitability & Safety

Not all conditions that may affect treatment suitability are listed here. Your safety, skin health and long-term results will always come first.

Treatment may need to be adapted, postponed or declined if you have:

Active acne, infection or inflammatory skin conditions

Treatment may need to be postponed if there are painful or inflamed breakouts, active cold sores, infection, open wounds, sunburn or a flare of eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis in the treatment area.

Compromised or recently damaged skin

Microneedling may not be appropriate where the skin barrier is severely irritated, broken, sensitised or unable to tolerate a controlled treatment safely.

Medication and medical conditions

Recent isotretinoin use, blood-thinning medication, bleeding disorders, uncontrolled diabetes, immune conditions or medication that affects healing must be disclosed before treatment.

Recent treatments and active skincare

Recent peels, laser procedures, injectables, surgery, waxing, threading or other advanced treatments may require the appointment to be delayed. Retinoids, exfoliating acids and other strong active products may also need to be paused.

Healing, scarring and pigmentation concerns

A history of keloid scarring, poor wound healing, persistent pigment changes or previous adverse reactions may affect treatment suitability.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and individual assessment

Pregnancy or breastfeeding status, allergies, recent health changes and your ability to follow the required aftercare must be disclosed. Treatment may be adapted, postponed or declined where it is not considered appropriate.

Your appointment

What to Expect

Consultation & Skin Assessment

Your concerns, current skincare routine, medical history, medications, recent treatments and previous reactions are reviewed. Your skin condition, barrier health and overall suitability are assessed before treatment begins.

Cleanse & Prepare

The skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared. The treatment area, needle depth and approach are selected according to your skin, concerns and tolerance.

Controlled Microneedling Treatment

A professional microneedling device is passed methodically across the treatment area to create controlled micro-channels. The treatment is adjusted throughout according to the area being treated and your individual skin response.

Calm, Protect & Plan

Calming and protective products are applied following treatment. You will receive personalised aftercare, guidance on when to resume your normal skincare routine and advice on any recommended treatment course.

After your appointment

Results & Recovery

Immediately After Treatment

The skin may appear red or darker in tone and feel warm, tight or sensitive immediately after treatment. Mild swelling or pinpoint bleeding may also occur depending on the treatment intensity and area treated.

During the Following Days

Redness and sensitivity usually begin to settle over the first few days. Temporary dryness, roughness, tightness or light flaking may develop as the skin recovers.

Visible Improvements

The skin may gradually appear smoother, firmer and more refined over the following weeks. Improvements in acne scarring, texture and fine lines develop progressively and vary according to your starting point and individual response.

Recommended Course & Maintenance

Some clients choose an individual treatment, while others may benefit from a personalised course spaced according to their skin response and goals. Maintenance treatments may be recommended to support longer-term improvements.

Supporting your skin

Post-Treatment Care

Keep Your Routine Gentle

Use a mild cleanser, simple moisturiser and only the products recommended for you. Avoid scrubs, cleansing brushes and exfoliating skincare while the skin is settling.

Protect Your Skin From UV

Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, limit direct sun exposure and avoid tanning beds. Reapply sun protection as needed once your skin can comfortably tolerate it.

Pause Active Skincare

Do not restart retinoids, exfoliating acids, benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C or other strong active products until your skin has settled and you have been advised that it is appropriate.

Avoid Excess Heat, Sweat & Friction

For the advised period, avoid saunas, steam rooms, swimming, very hot showers, intense exercise and anything that causes excessive heat, sweating or friction against the treated skin.

Avoid Makeup, Touching & Picking

Do not apply makeup for at least 24 hours or until advised. Avoid unnecessarily touching the treated area, and allow any dryness or light flaking to settle naturally without rubbing or picking.

Follow Your Personalised Guidance

Follow all preparation and aftercare advice provided by HEXIE Beauty. Contact if you experience unexpected or worsening pain, blistering, marked swelling, persistent bleeding, signs of infection or any reaction that concerns you.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a professional collagen-induction treatment that uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-channels within the skin. This encourages a natural repair response that can gradually improve the appearance of skin texture, acne scarring, enlarged pores and fine lines.

Can microneedling improve acne scarring?

Microneedling may help soften the visible appearance and texture of certain acne scars by supporting collagen remodelling within the skin. It will not remove scars completely, and the level of improvement varies according to the type, depth and age of the scarring.

Does microneedling hurt?

Most clients describe the treatment as mildly to moderately uncomfortable rather than painful. The sensation varies according to the treatment area, needle depth and individual tolerance, and the treatment can be adjusted where required.

How much downtime should I expect?

Redness, warmth, tightness or sensitivity are common immediately after treatment and usually begin to settle within 24-72 hours. Temporary dryness, roughness or light flaking may continue for several days depending on the treatment intensity and your skin response.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

You may be advised to pause retinoids, exfoliating acids or other active products before your appointment. Avoid excessive sun exposure and disclose all medications, recent treatments, active breakouts, cold-sore history, allergies and previous skin reactions during your consultation.

When will I see results?

The skin may begin to look fresher and smoother within a few weeks, but collagen remodelling develops gradually. More noticeable improvements in texture, firmness and scarring can take several weeks or months and vary between individuals.

How many microneedling treatments will I need?

The recommended number of treatments depends on your starting point, skin concerns and response. Some clients choose an individual treatment, while concerns such as acne scarring or uneven texture may benefit from a personalised course spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart.

Can I wear makeup after microneedling?

Makeup should not be applied for at least 24 hours after treatment or until advised. Applying makeup too soon may increase irritation or introduce bacteria while the skin barrier is recovering.

Is microneedling suitable for all skin tones?

Microneedling can be considered for a wide range of skin tones because it does not rely on heat or light energy. However, treatment settings, preparation and aftercare must still be personalised because temporary or persistent pigment changes remain a possible risk.

Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?

Microneedling may form part of a wider personalised skin plan, but the timing and order of treatments must be considered carefully. Combining treatments during the same appointment will only be considered where it is appropriate for your skin and the relevant professional protocols.
